John Thomson Mason papers, 1792-1909.

Papers relate to his business and personal affairs and include a copy of his will. They comprise an interesting body of correspondence with various members of the writer's family, many of them written from Mexico, Texas, and other southern points in the 1830s and later (Box 3-4). A large portion of the collection consists of documents, 1826-1850, dealing with claims against the Mexican government, including material pertaining to the building at Philadelphia for the Mexican government in 1826-27 of the ship Kensington, to be used as a naval vessel by Mexico (Box 1). Other papers set forth the purchase of military and other supplies for the equipment of General Francisco J. Mina's invasion of Mexico in 1817, which ended in his execution by Spanish authorities on November 11, 1817 (Box 1).
